I'm a big admirer of the original and have watched it more than once, and found the whole package quite exceptional.
Sadly remakes are quite the fashion nowadays and in rare cases they can exceed or match the original. This one doesn't! They have re-written the original from its "Christian v Pagan" theme to some extreme feminist cult based in north-west USA. The acting is poor and Nicholas Cage is just annoying in the lead role very unsuited to the part. The story is surprisingly boring and doesn't have the same creepy factor the original did.
The settings are undeniably incredibly beautiful, but apart from that there is nothing of note in this film. It's dreadfully poor and even removes a number of the greatest aspects of the original.
